Second-year Animation majors have once again offered their services to the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education. They previously collaborated with UNESCO is producing a video on Cultural Heritage Conservation. More recently, they were asked to develop a video to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS.

UNESCO sponsored a half-day training session for the MUIC students to critique previous HIV awareness campaigns and explore the common myths and misconceptions about HIV transmission, including related issues such as discrimination, condom use and gender-based violence.

The students devoted the next month on research and the development of animation storyboards on various topics related to HIV. The successful storyboards were fully developed and will be used in a campaign to raise HIV awareness among young adults, particularly Burmese migrants on the Thai-Burmese border.

According to Ajarn Millie Young, Animation Lecturer in the Fine and Applied Arts Division, “This project offered a three-fold educational experience. Working with UNESCO as a client enabled the students to develop a professional attitude toward their work. In addition, they themselves learned about issues related to HIV awareness. Finally, this experience helped them to further communicate that information to others in need.”

he volunteers met with Hua Hin administrators to explore possibilities for future community projects, after which they cleaned up the beach. On the second day, they visited the Royal Initiative Project, which offers models of organic farming, new agricultural techniques and alternative energy, in order to adapt and implement these new initiatives in their own outreach efforts.
