In accordance with Mahidol University’s core values, MUIC’s mission is to produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable in their chosen fields but also are able to use that knowledge for the benefit of humankind.
In that spirit, the College has encouraged its students to serve the larger community by participating in a variety of outreach efforts, particularly through the activities of the Student Association and its student clubs.
In line with its mission to contribute to the welfare of the civic community, the MUIC Student Association conducted the “MUIC Blood Donation Drive” in the Seminar Room on October 17, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. More than 200 students, faculty, and staff members donated blood which was subsequently given to Siriraj Hospital. Second-year Animation majors have once again offered their services to the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education. They previously collaborated with UNESCO is producing a video on Cultural Heritage Conservation. More recently, they were asked to develop a video to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS.
UNESCO sponsored a half-day training session for the MUIC students to critique previous HIV awareness campaigns and explore the common myths and misconceptions about HIV transmission, including related issues such as discrimination, condom use and gender-based violence.
The students devoted the next month on research and the development of animation storyboards on various topics related to HIV. The successful storyboards were fully developed and will be used in a campaign to raise HIV awareness among young adults, particularly Burmese migrants on the Thai-Burmese border. (more…)
