The First Biennial Youth Leadership Workshop
for Mekong Region Development
Mahidol University International College (MUIC)
Date: 18-20 August 2016
Venue: Nakhon Phanom, Thailand
Why Mekong region:
The Mekong region is one of Asia’s fastest growing areas that covered 2.6 million square kilometres and a combined population of 326 million. This is a ‘natural economic area’ bound together by Mekong River, which stretches over Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and southern province of Yunnan in China. The rich human and natural resource endowments of the Mekong region have made it a new frontier of Asian economic growth. This area, thus, deserves attention from the Southeast Asian community, especially among the potential young leaders of the region.
As MUIC has been expanding our collaboration with other Southeast Asian partner universities, the Youth Leadership Program for Mekong Region development proposes to foster mutual understanding, respect, and civic engagement among MUIC students and their Southeast Asian peers and to enhance this collaboration to the regional level by inviting partner universities of the Mekong region to cooperate in this project.
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in universities in the Mekong region. Third and fourth year students are preferred.
- Applicants must be able to attend both parts of this program. The first part is the workshop, which will be held in Nakhon Phanom Province, Thailand from 18-20 August 2016, and the second part is the competition, which proposes to be held in Bangkok in March 2017.
- Applicants must demonstrate their interest in the Mekong region and prepare to work as a team with other students in developing a project for Mekong region.
