Service Competency Development and Importance of Standard for Thai Tourism

Ajarn Nate-tra Dhevabanchachai, General Manager, Salaya Pavilion Hotel and Training Center and Lecturer of Tourism and Hospitality Program, Mahidol University International College is invited by Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sport to be a guest speaker on “Service Competency Development and Importance of Standard for Thai Tourism” at Suphanburi province on June 24, 2011.

The Director - General, Department of Tourism Mr. Suphon Sripan has honorably presided over the event and the participants are the governmental sectors, hotel staff, and owners of various service properties, as well as monks who are interested to develop the temples as a religious tourism destination. The seminar is organized and well cared by Mrs. Mayuree Thongsong, Director of Bureau of Tourism Services Development, Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism.

The goal of the seminar is to encourage the personnel and officers who are working in the field of tourism and services in Suphanburi province realize the importance of service excellence which is the trademark of the tourism strategy in Thailand.

PARKING IS NOT ALLOWED

MUIC is prohibiting any parking along walkways. Parking lots 1 and 2 are available daily until midnight, with tram service to the college. Not complying with the rules will result in disciplinary action.

Intensive Design Program

The Intensive Design Program is a 9-day course for high school students, focusing on Observational Drawing, Design Fundamentals, and Portfolio Development and Preparation. It will be conducted from July 19 to July 29, 2011, from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm at the MUIC Graduate Center, 12th Floor, Sathorn City Tower.

New Exchange Agreement

On June 2, 2011, Asst. Prof. Yingyot Chiaravutthi, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Charles Windish, Associate Dean for International Affairs, welcomed Dr. David Olive, President of Bluefield College, Virginia, and student representatives for an exchange agreement signing ceremony at Mahidol University International College.This exchange ageement will go into effect this coming September and will enable students from both colleges to expand their academic and cultural experiences.

First Aid Services

MUIC is providing a First Aid Center (Room 2016 in Building 2) for students, faculty and staff members. A registered nurse is available on Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A doctor will be available every Wednesday, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. For those who wish to see the doctor, please make an appointment in advance with the nurse.

Non-Smoking Exhibition

Assistant Professor Yingyot Chiaravutthi, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, presided over the opening ceremony of the “Non-Smoking Exhibition,” organized by the Office of Student Affairs, on May 31, 2011, on the ground floor of Building 1. The exhibition, which will run until June 3, featured the direct and indirect dangers of tobacco to human health. The attendees also participated in a series of body exercises conducted by a professional trainer.

MUIC Student a Finalist at Bangkok Post 9FilmFest

“Elevator,” a short film directed by MUIC student Suphasit Tanprasertsupa, was selected as one of the nine finalists at the Bangkok Post 9FilmFest, Thailand’s Biggest Short Film and Musical Festival of the Year. The contest attracted over 200 submissions.

All nine films were screened on May 28, 2011, at an outdoor ceremony at Parc Paragon. Eiji Shimada of Japan was awarded the trophy for Best Short Film and a 100,000-baht cash prize.
